The Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Monday, warned motorists and commuters against traveling at night as Christmas approaches to avoid accidents.
The command’s Spokesman, Mr Ado Adamu, gave the warning during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse. Adamu said this was because roads were safer during the day, adding that day journey would also ensure the security and safety of both drivers and commuters as during the festive season.
He noted that, motorists who must embark on night journeys, must ensure that their head lights, break lights, signals and breaks were functioning properly.
The spokesman also said drivers must also ensure that all their tyres, including spares, were in good condition.He said drivers must possess fire extinguishers, triangles and all other necessary items needed during emergency situations.
“FRSC discourages night journey, but where it becomes necessary, drivers should ensure that their headlights, break lights and signals are properly working,” he said.
Adamu further warned drivers, particularly commercial vehicle drivers, to avoid overloading, speeding and reckless driving during the ember months.
He noted that impatience, recklessness and speeding were some of the factors responsible for motor accidents.The spokesman appealed to drivers to be more careful, especially during the ember months when traffic was usually high.
