Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has sought resolution of outstanding issues between Nigeria and the United Kingdom through strengthened ties.

Receiving the European country’s Secretary of State for International Development, Alok Sharma yesterday in Abuja, he said the most population black nation stands to benefit immensely from the United Kingdom in its ongoing reform of the business environment.

According to him, “one of the critical issues with the ease of doing business is with respect to the registration of property and how the process is long drawn.”

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, the vice president noted that while states like Lagos and Kano had done well with issues around land registration, there were, however, still some outstanding issues which would require collaboration between both nations.

He recalled that such collaboration was in place when he was a commissioner, adding: “UK gave us quite a bit of help in establishing what was used as land registry years ago.

“Every state has own peculiar issues and challenges. How to document across the various states is what poses the challenge.” Osinbajo threw more light on the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP), stating that the Federal Government and states had decided on ranching as an option for livestock breeding.

“States determine the implementation methods, while both the Federal Government and the states would share the cost,” he stated.Earlier, Sharma commended the vice president for his role in driving the ease of doing business reform, praising the country for moving up 24 places in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business Ranking.

On the s issue of land registry, he noted that the process had been simplified in the UK through technology. Both the Osinbajo and his visitor discussed the rehabilitation of the North East and how Britain could support the process.
