Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has appointed a former Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs. Abiodun Ige, as his Special Adviser on Security Matters.
Mrs. Ige served as the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Police Command, from February 9, 2019 and retired in January 2020 after a meritorious service.
The governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ismail Omipidan, in a statement noted that her appointment takes immediate effect.
The state government has given reasons for retaining the Opon-Imo policy despite the reversal of the single school uniform, reclassification of the public school system and abolition of middle and high schools introduced in 2013.
Information and Civic Engagement Commissioner Mrs. Funke Egbemode, speaking yesterday on Rave FM, Osogbo during a programme, ‘Frank Talk, monitored by The Nation, said: “The Opon-Imo policy is retained because of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) age.
“We are in the ICT age and we need our pupils to get familiar with what is in vogue.
“Throwing out Opon-Imo will be like throwing away the baby with the bathwater. The first Opon-Imo was quite impressive and was done in a way it ought to be. It is possible to make it better than the way it was first introduced.”
