Kano State Government has said the distribution of food items donated by Federal government as palliatives during COVID-19 lockdown will commence on Thursday.

Commissioner for local government in Kano, Murtala Sule Garo made this known at the routine state press briefing on COVID-19 at Government house.

Kano State will kick off the distribution of 110 trucks of food items is less than 48 hours after The Guardian reported the neglect of the hundreds of million worth naira.

The food items were left in open space and were exposed to sun and rainfall.

Garo, however, claimed that the food items delivered by Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Faruq are not damaged, he insisted that adequate measures were put in place to ensure the items are save.

Garo, a member of Kano State Adhoc Committee on Fundraising, said that the committee has received N170 million from the state government to argument the financial donation and logistics involve in the distribution.

He said the food items and money will distributed to 50, 000 households in the state.

The chairman of the committee and Vice Chancellor, Bayero university Kano, Professor Mohammadu Ya’uza Bello had told The Guardian that the delay in the distribution of FG palliatives was because of N170 million naira approved but yet to release by state government.

From the fund, each of the of 50, 000 households will get N2000 allowance, Bello said.
