Teachers in Edo State have described as unprecedented, the achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the education sector.
They said he would be re-elected on September 19.
The teachers described Obaseki’s administration as responsive, people-centred and knowledge-driven, noting that his government’s reforms in education had received national and international commendation.
The teachers, under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Edo wing, yesterday in Benin said Obaseki remained teachers’ best governor, adding that his re-election would enable him consolidate on his people-oriented policies, reforms and transformation of the education sector.
NUT’s statement was signed by the Chairman, Pius Okhueleigbe and Assistant Secretary-General Mike Itua.
They urged Edo people, who cared about their children and the state’s future, to stand by Obaseki.
The teachers said: “For the purpose of the 2019 World Teachers’ Day National Award bestowed on Governor Obaseki, the union wishes to emphasise that a very diligent and painstaking exercise of screening/evaluation was carried out by its constitutionally-empowered award committee (as contained in Article 10(vii); in Abuja vis-à-vis the use of stringent benchmarks for determining who wins the annual award among the governors nominated.”
