A huge crowd yesterday besieged the Ilorin International Airport to welcome the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero.
The monarch is on a three-day official visit to the ancient city.
Some dignitaries from the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari and notable sons of Ilorin were at the airport to receive him.
The emir landed at the airport in company of some traditional chiefs and was given a rousing welcome as he alighted from his flight.
Cultural dancers and drummers also found their way into the airport to welcome the royal majesty with sounds of drums and songs renting the air.
Our correspondent observed that many commercial tricycle riders conveying several residents stormed the Ilorin international airport to receive the royal majesty.
Several horse riders dressed in beautiful regalia were seen waiting for the Emir at the General hospital area with many residents and commuters stopping to watch them as it were the usual scene during the yearly durbar celebration.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC and even the local vigilante officers were mobilised into the streets and inside the airport to ensure maintenance of law and order.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were placed at strategic locations at Ilorin General Hospital to Sawmill road and down to the airport road, to ensure free flow of traffic.
