The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a crucial scam alert on the escalating activities of fraudulent individuals falsely linking themselves with the NCS for purposes of auctions, recruitment and defrauding innocent Nigerians.

In a statement issued on its verified X account on Monday, the service decried the recent surge in scams orchestrated by deceitful individuals impersonating high-ranking officials within the NCS.

According to the NCS, unscrupulous individuals exploit unsuspecting members of the public through social media platforms on which they promote fictitious auctions and sham recruitment adverts purportedly endorsed by the Service.

NSC unequivocally stated in clear terms that auctions of seized goods are never conducted via any social media platform, warning that any such claims on social media should be treated as fraudulent and promptly reported.

”The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, wishes to draw the general public’s attention to the rising number of scammers impersonating Customs officers and fraudulently claiming to offer auctioned vehicles, goods, or job opportunities

”These fraudsters use fake websites, social media accounts, and messaging platforms to deceive unsuspecting individuals into making payments

”The Nigeria Customs Service does NOT auction goods or conduct recruitment via social media,” NSC warned.

The service therefore urged the general public to be vigilant when approached with offers or announcements regarding Customs auctions or recruitment, while any suspicious activities should be reported to the nearest Customs office or through official communication channels for immediate assistance.
