“South Sudan’s displacement crisis reflects a global challenge: a humanitarian system designed for short-term response but often ill-equipped for long-term solutions,” according to Anita Kiki Gbeho, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan. “Progress is possible. Across the country, UN agencies and partners are already working with communities and authorities to lay the foundations for durable solutions,” she says in an AllAfrica guest column. She describes the UN’s ongoing work with the Government of South Sudan and partners to help communities rebuild their lives through access to land, jobs, services, and local peacebuilding.

AllAfrica’s peacebuilding reporting is supported by funding from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, a philanthropic organization.
