The Nigerian Police Council and Council of state are expected to meet this week( Monday ) to ratify the appointment of Acting Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, all things being equal.

Council is a constitutional body responsible for the organization, administration, and general supervision of the Nigeria Police Force, excluding operational control. It comprises the President (Chairman), all State Governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police

While the council of state comprises the president , vice president all former Presidents and Heads of state , current and former Senate presidents , speakers of the House of Representatives, current and former Attorney Generals , current, Chief Justices of Nigeria and the state Governors in Nigeria.

It was gathered early hours of Monday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who will sit as chairman of the councils slatted to meet at different intervals with Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice chair has convened the Council of State meeting for today where the nomination of the new IGP would be tabled for confirmation .

Disu’s nomination will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation if ratified by the two advisory councils as required by the 1999 constitution as amended .

It was gathered that the president’s decision to fast track the ratification of IGP Disu is as result of the tension between the United States of America and the Republic of Iran within the Middle East and the nerd to give the IGP all the required legal powers to ensure the protection of lives of Nigerians and have absolute control to make decisions.

Acting Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu was appointed last week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egebtokun.

The Councils are constitutional advisory bodies established under the 1999 constitution as amended to counsel the President on policy-making and key appointments including appointment of the Inspector General of Police.

The councils members are constitutionally recognised as eligible to participate in the advisory council set up with the responsibility of ratifying certain nominations including that of the Inspector General of Police

The Acting IGP has hit the ground running with a promise to end impunity within the force and ensure a regime of discipline , professionalism and integrity .

Disu, of ratified and confirmed by the Senate will serve as the 23rd indigenous IGP in Nigeria since 1960.
