Nigerian football is at a major crossroads. Following the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, serious questions have been raised about the leadership and administration of Nigerian football.

The crisis has already triggered major changes: NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other executive members resigned in August. Meanwhile, the NFF fact-finding committee has recommended reforms, including term limits and wider stakeholder participation.

With an emergency NFF Congress meeting scheduled for September, the big question is: What needs to change to restore confidence and put Nigerian football back on the right path?
