Anambra’s governor must be focused, technology-driven, says Ozigbo

Rebuild Nigeria Group hosts guber aspirant

Leading aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has expressed hope in the capacity of the state to re-enact good political leadership in the mould of former indigenous leaders.

Addressing members of the Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, who hosted him in Oyi, Ozigbo said the exemplary leadership of Nigeria’s former President, late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi was an indication that good times could be re-enacted if focused leadership was enthroned once again in the state.

Ozigbo’s last weekend’s consultative meeting with members of the Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, a national group specialised in mobilising political support was one of the several meetings the governorship aspirant held in recent weeks to actualise his political ambition.

The Rebuild Nigeria Initiative, as a national grassroots body, has structures in all 21 local government areas of Anambra State.

Leader of the group and former Anambra State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Frank Oramulu, in whose Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area residence, the meeting held on Sunday, thanked Ozigbo for leaving the comfort of his quiet but successful private sector career to seek an opportunity to return the state to the days of good governance.

Ozigbo, who thanked the group for its contribution to grassroots development of politics in the state, said he drew his inspiration from the exemplary leadership of two great leaders, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Michael Okpara, who massively transformed the fortunes of Igboland during their times.

The immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc said both leaders made Igbo race the envy of the world.

Ozigbo attributed their achievements to great leadership skills, which he said could be surpassed in the present circumstances given that technology and knowledge had advanced.

In contemporary political leadership of Anambra State, Ozigbo specifically mentioned the giant strides of former Governor, Peter Obi, whose efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructural development he said engendered the social and economic transformation of Anambra State.

“All of these and more are achievable now more than ever if we prioritize competence in leadership,” Ozigbo said.

The governorship aspirant described Obi as a prudent leader who did tremendously well in office, as well as saved for the future generation of the state.

“With every sense of humility, my intention for seeking elective office is to demonstrate the unlimited possibilities that can become a reality when the right people with the right heart get into public office.”

Ozigbo promised to partner with all stakeholders, including former leaders and the Rebuild Nigeria Initiative in his bid to build the state. He gave the assurance that Anambra State would be in good hands under his watch if voted into office.

Chief Maga Leo Obi-Okpala, Chairman of Coordinators of Rebuild Nigeria, expressed “deep confidence” in Ozigbo and cautioned against disharmony in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He stated that his belief that Ozigbo would be one candidate capable of returning PDP to the Anambra State Government House.

Echoing Obi-Okpala’s words, Ben Mgbike promised that the Rebuild Nigeria Group would work tirelessly to ensure Ozigbo’s victory. Mgbike described Ozigbo as a “politician without baggage.”

On his part, Honorable Tim Egboka regretted that Anambra had been stagnant, expressing his hope that Ozigbo would be the one to reinstate the state as the “Light of The Nation”.

While making his comments, Hon. Valentine Ayika who accompanied Ozigbo to the event described the PDP leading aspirant as a man of peace, excellence, and humility.

He enjoined the people of Anambra not to engage in the politics of blackmail, propaganda, and name-calling, noting that Ozigbo did not represent politics of acrimony.

Other dignitaries in attendance were Hon. Tony Offiah, Mr. Izuchukwu Oraelosi, Mr Chinedu Oformata, Mr. Innocent Ụgwọ, Mrs. Chinenye Okongwu (State Women’s leader of Rebuild Nigeria), Mr. Orji Ademola (Rebuild Nigeria Youth leader), Prof. Celestine Ugwumba, Hon. Afam Okparauzegbu and many more.
