Apple Inc. announced on Monday that its senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus (pictured), will become the company’s new CEO, effective September 1, 2026, based on a unanimous approval by the board of directors, APA reports.

Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook will remain in his current position during the summer to help Ternus transition into his new role smoothly, after which he will switch to his new role of executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors.

“John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and with honor. He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count, and he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future,” Cook said.

The tech giant also revealed that Johny Srouji will become chief hardware officer, effective immediately, after previously serving as senior vice president of Hardware Technologies.
