Diri preaches loyalty, unity

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has called on party leaders to adopt strategies to prevent anti-party activities ahead of the local government congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slated for March 21.

The governor met yesterday with members of the PDP Local Government Congress Management Committee at the Government House in Yenagoa.

A statement by his Acting Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said the governor urged the committee to replicate the success recorded in the just-concluded ward congress.

He said: “I thank you for the successes recorded in the just-concluded ward congress. We had a very peaceful congress. Although there will be complaints in every event, those complaints were addressed adequately.

“We need committed PDP members who will stand by our party come rain come shine. The charge is for you to replicate what happened with the ward congress. Look out for trusted and faithful party members who will not be induced.”

PDP Chairman Moses Cleopas said the meeting was at the instance of the governor to appraise the last ward congress to make amends where necessary ahead of the local government congress.

Cleopas, who described the ward congress as orderly and peaceful, attributed the development to the consensus building approach adopted by party leaders.
