One hundred and seventy persons in Modaji, Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State enjoyed free medical outreach organised by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Medical Team/Red Cross Community Development Service.
State Schedule Officer and Head of Corps Welfare Okoliko Daniel, who represented the State Coordinator, Yahaya Ahidjo, urged host communities to create the enabling environment for corps members to carry out projects that will benefit the community.
He stressed the need for communities to own projects executed by corps members as they will always leave such projects behind.
Daniel enjoined the corps’ doctors to prioritise women and children who are always the most vulnerable groups to malaria attacks.
Group leader Dr Jonathan Manulu said the medicines were sourced from Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and other donors.
Highlights of the outreach included the distribution of 150 insecticide-treated mosquito nets, health talk on dental hygiene, eye care and general health talk on malaria and prevention of Hemitiasis (worm infestation).
Over 60 toothbrushes and pastes were also distributed at the event.
