Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to “rally behind their new leaders” as he congratulates the winners of Thursday’s by-elections in 22 constituencies. In a statement that emphasized unity following pockets of violence during the polls, Kindiki said the government is committed to inclusive development and “respectful politics across the country.”

Kenya’s Commission on Human Rights had earlier reported disruptions and cases of violence in several regions, including Kasipul Constituency, where two people were killed after clashes linked to political activities.
