The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, has promised to synergize with the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) with a view to strengthening security and boosting revenue.
Jimoh made the promise when he received the Controller of Customs, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command, Lagos, Michael Awe, who paid him a courtesy visit at the State Police Command.
He said synergy between the two agencies would be maintained for better security in the state.
According to him, there are areas to collaborate with the Customs.
“The ease of doing business and we are going to ensure the synergy overtime continues.
“We are not a revenue-generating agency, but we are going to give all the support to ensure the command surpasses its revenue target,” he said.
Awe said he was at the command to seek continuous synergy with the police. He noted that the service has seized many arms, ammunition, drugs and other prohibited items, showing the synergy was in operation.
“The purpose of the visit is to build synergy with the police because we cannot do the jobs alone.
“Recently, within my command at MMIA in Lagos, we seized arms, ammunition, military accoutrements and hard drugs.
“We were able to carry out 100 per cent examination on goods as directed and the illegal items were discovered, suspect traced to Turkey and arrested.
“This can only happen through synergy by agencies,” he said.
The CP also received the Comptroller of Immigration, Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Command, D.O. Adebambo, who also paid a courtesy visit.
The Immigration boss commended the police for their collaboration with the service, stressing that his visit was to seek continuation.
Adebambo said the service was always happy to collaborate with sister agencies in operations, particularly, on intelligence gathering.
“There are many areas we can collaborate with the police, including intelligence sharing.
“Police can give us actionable intelligence that we can deploy to better the operation of my office. Such is highly welcomed.
“This is one of the reasons I am here to seek synergy with the CP,” he said.
On illegal immigrants, Adebambo said the service has been sensitising market people, and transporters about illegal immigrants.
“We told them if they see something, they should say something. If we have intelligence about illegal immigrants, we always act on it swiftly,” he said.
CP Jimoh, who also commended the NIS for their collaboration, assured them of their continued synergy.
