Army colonel Michael Randrianirina, who was sworn in as president of Madagascar following weeks of anti-government protests, has named Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo – a prominent figure in the private sector – as the country’s new prime minister. Rajaonarivelo has been touted as having the skills, experience, and relevant international connections required to perform in his new role.
The new president promised a civilian government to work with “all the driving forces of the nation”, while rejecting accusations of having led a coup last week.
