Manchester United have activated a £35million release clause to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, talkSPORT understands.

United are working on bringing in new midfielders this summer and Tielemans has become the latest player to be linked with a move.

The 29-year-old, who played for Belgium at the World Cup, has two years left on his contract at Villa.

Tielemans will likely fill the void left by Casemiro, who looks likely to join Inter Miami following his Old Trafford exit.

United are also set to complete the signing of Andrey Santos from their Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £50m move.

Tielemans has 244 appearances in the Premier League across spells at Leicester City and Villa.

He was named as the 2024/25 Player of the Season for the latter, with whom he won last season’s Europa League title.

With 90 caps for Belgium, Tielemans is a seasoned international and captained his country at the World Cup.

Tielemans played in every match during their run to the quarter-finals and scored two goals in their comeback win over Senegal.

However, he did not feature in the 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Spain as he picked up an apparent hamstring injury during the warm-up.
