The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has uncovered an illegal crude oil reservoir in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.
Aidamenbor explained that the discovery was made during a joint operation with the Nigerian Army and TANTITA Security Service.
He revealed that the illegal reservoir was hidden in a forest in Obe-Akingboye, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
“The discovery was made on Sunday at about 14:12 p.m., but no arrests were made as the suspects had already fled the scene,” he stated.
The Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, issued a stern warning to individuals involved in illegal petroleum activities, urging them to desist or face legal consequences.
“He also reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets, particularly in the solid minerals sector,” Aidamenbor added.
The NSCDC confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and dismantle other illegal operations in the region.
