
Customs Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, has stated that the command generated N25,777,379, 328.17 covering the period of March to May 2025.
Adelaja said the generated revenue represents an increase of 36.67 per cent when compared to the sum of N18,168, 204,255.04 collected in the same period of 2024.
The command’s controller disclosed this at a press briefing on Tuesday, held at the command’s operational headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
“In light of the ongoing economic reforms, the command has successfully collected the sum of N25, 777, 379, 328.17 covering the period of March to May, 2025.
“The generated revenue represents an increase of 36.67 per cent when compared to the sum of N18, 168,204,255.04 kobo collected in the same period of 2024,” Adelaja said.
He attributed the command’s success to the dedication of its officers and men, the effective enforcement of Customs laws, as well as improved trade measures to facilitate legitimate trade.
“The implementation of modern trade facilitation tools has enhanced compliance among excise stakeholders, ensuring that revenue leakages are effectively reduced and, in turn, plays a vital role in the Federal Government’s economic reforms and supports the national development,” Adelaja said.
“The command’s anti-smuggling activities have successfully led to the interception of a significant number of prohibited items with a Duty Paid Value of N335,648,500 for the month of May 2025,” he added.
Among the intercepted goods were 310 pieces of used compressors (DPV: of N9,300,000), smartly packed inside apple cartons.
Other seizures, according to Adelaja, include 1,698(50kg) foreign parboiled rice (DPV N153,780,000); 130 (25-litre kegs) of Premium Motor Spirit (DPV: N3,250,000); 21 drums (125 litres) (DPV N3,150,000); 226 pieces of used tyres (DPV: N18,080,000); 67 sacks of used clothes (DPV: N40,200,000); 37 bales of used clothes (DPV: N26,640,000); 130 wraps of used clothes (DPV: N26,000,000); 4 sacks of used shoes (DPV: N3, 360,000 and 68 wraps (39kg) of Cannabis Sativa (DPV: N1,228,500).
Fake pharmaceuticals seized by the command include 10 cartons of Everzorol Cream 20gm (DPV: N4,500,000); 5 cartons (10 Amp) Zytocin Oxytocin (DPV: N1,800,000; 27 cartons of Phinimal Arteether Injection (DPV: N12,960,000; 10 cartons of Areechy Zink Sulphate 20mg (DPV: N15,000,000; 16 cartons of Biovilo 13.125mg (DPV: N2,400,000); one used Mazda bus (white colour) (DPV: N5,000,000 and one used Toyota Sienna (metallic blue) (DPV: N9,000,000)
The Oyo/Osun Area Command Controller revealed that the command has also stepped up its efforts to safeguard lives and protect local industries.
He added that approval has been given to the command to hand over the seized Cannabis Sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the counterfeit pharmaceuticals to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for further investigation.
Adelaja thanked the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, and his management team for supporting the command.
He also thanked the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the traditional rulers in Oyo and Osun states, as well as sister security agencies, for their support.
