After years of neglect and a total state of disrepair of the popular Zungeru, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday flagged off the reconstruction of the 3.6-kilometer road to ease the pains of motorists.
Zungeru road, a major township network connecting users from Airport Road, through No-Mans-Land to Hajj Campaign, was abandoned by the immediate past administration, causing major obstruction and a nightmare to users, especially during the rainy season.
Incidentally, the project, initially awarded for construction about 11 years ago during the second tenure of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was left dilapidated by Abdullah Umar Ganduje’s administration.
In a renewed commitment to make life better for the dwellers of the area, Governor Yusuf, at the reconstruction flag-off, directed quality and prompt deliverables on the critical infrastructure.
Yusuf highlighted the significance of the Zungeru city road network to daily busy users, emphasizing that the intention to propel the reconstruction was part of the government’s steadfastness in creating critical infrastructure for better living for citizens of Kano.
Besides, the Governor stressed that the bold step to correct the years of total neglect on the road was borne out of his administration’s urban renewal projects to strengthen infrastructure.
He added that Kano, as an emerging mega-city, deserves high-quality roads, assuring the commitment of the government to enhance people’s lives through the execution of key developmental projects.
The governor tasked the contractor handling the road project to ensure timely completion and strict adherence to the stipulated rules and guidelines. He assured contractors in the state prompt payment for contracts completed.
He applauded the support and cooperation of the Sabon-Gari Community to the present administration; he urged for sustenance of the tempo for rapid socioeconomic development in the non-native dominated community.
