Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, described education as the most powerful tool for unlocking the potential of youths, fostering opportunities and building a prosperous state.
The governor spoke during the official commissioning of new sets of ultra-modern blocks of classrooms constructed by the Lagos State government and Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS) at St. Luke Junior Grammar School, Bariga, Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi, and Euba Junior High School, Mushin, Lagos.
The commissioning, he said, marks significant milestones in his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving education infrastructure in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Oluwasegun Osiyemi in Bariga, described the event as part of a broader initiative as nine other schools across the state are also being commissioned this week.
At Fadeyi, the governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, highlighted the state government’s continued investment in education.
He noted that infrastructure, learning tools, and modern materials are being provided to create an enabling environment for students.
He, therefore, urged the community leaders, parents, and teachers to support the government’s educational initiatives, ensuring proper maintenance of the new facility.
The governor, who also advised students to take full advantage of the upgraded learning environment, noted that the newly commissioned facility aligns with the state government’s broader vision of enhancing education and equipping schools with modern infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the governor said that Euba Junior School had long faced significant challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, deteriorating infrastructure, and inadequate facilities.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by his Special Adviser, Office of Internal Audit, Dr Oyeyemi Ayoola, said his administration took swift action to address them, reaffirming its commitment to providing a safe, modern, and motivating learning environment.
The governor emphasized the crucial role education plays in socio-economic development.
The newly constructed facility, he said, is expected to significantly enhance the quality of education while stimulating community development.
Sanwo-Olu, while commending the efforts of SCRPS, development partners, and all stakeholders involved, urged the communities to take ownership of the schools and ensure they remain centres of excellence.
