A former governor of Rivers State who served between 2007 and 2015, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed sadness over the state of the schools built and commissioned by his administration while he was governor.

While speaking on Arise News on Tuesday, Amaechi revealed that the schools he built have now been abandoned and vandalised.

“People building flyovers here are making noise. I built six flyovers, and I didn’t make noise. I didn’t call the president to come and commission them. I built primary schools, I built secondary schools that people are calling universities.

“Let any other governor who has built primary schools in Rivers State come forward. I build secondary schools people are calling universities. Two children per room in those schools and I got an agency in India to manage those schools. So they brought science teachers from India and arts teacher from Nigeria,” said Amaechi.

When asked about the current state of the schools, he said they have now been abandoned and vandalised.

He said, “Abandoned. Vandalised. That’s why I don’t go to Rivers State. Because it gives me mental disorder. Within that period we tried to build a new city. We had finished with 24-hour power supply. It was abandoned and vandalised.”
