On Saturday, defending champions Senegal overcame an early scare at the weekend to defeat a spirited Sudan side 3-1, becoming the first nation to secure a place in the 2025 quarter-finals. They were followed into the next stage of the tournament by Mali, who with 10 men were forced after 120 minutes into a penalty shootout with Tunisia, which they won.
