Nigerian footballers were in action across Europe over the weekend, finding the net, providing assists, or making notable contributions for their respective clubs. The Guardian Sports reviews how some of the stars fared.

SPAIN
Ademola Lookman (Atlético Madrid)

Ademola Lookman finally opened his La Liga goal account for Atlético Madrid, scoring in a 4–2 victory over Espanyol on Saturday.

The Super Eagles forward joined Atlético from Atalanta on February 1, 2026, for a reported £30.3 million, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract. He has now scored four goals in six appearances across all competitions.

Four days after his arrival, Lookman made his debut in the Copa del Rey, scoring in a 5–0 away win over Real Betis to register the 100th goal of his professional career.

Although he failed to score in his La Liga debut against Betis and drew blanks against Rayo Vallecano, he struck again in the Champions League during a 3–3 draw with Club Brugge and earlier netted in Atlético’s 4–0 Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg win over Barcelona.

The 28-year-old found his rhythm in the league on Saturday, scoring in the 58th minute from a Matteo Ruggeri assist to put Atlético 3–1 ahead at the Wanda Metropolitano. He was substituted three minutes later for Julián Álvarez.

Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla)

Akor Adams provided the decisive assist as Sevilla edged 10-man Getafe 1–0 on Sunday.

After Djené’s 26th-minute red card, Adams teed up Djibril Sow in the 64th minute with a clever lay-off following a pass from Adnan Januzaj. The goal ended Sevilla’s three-match winless run.

Adams has now recorded four goal involvements in his last six matches and boasts six goals and three assists in 13 La Liga starts this season. He was replaced in the 89th minute by Gerard Peque.

Chidera Ejuke also featured, coming on at halftime for Batista Mendy.

Umar Sadiq (Valencia)

Umar Sadiq received a late yellow card in Valencia’s 2–1 defeat to Villarreal after a reckless challenge on Santiago Mourino.

FRANCE
Moses Simon (Paris FC)

Moses Simon was booked in stoppage time after coming off the bench in Paris FC’s 1–1 draw with Toulouse.

The winger replaced Ilan Kebbal in the 85th minute and was cautioned in the 97th minute for pushing Julián Vignolo and dissent.

Simon has recorded three goals and two assists in 20 Ligue 1 appearances since joining from Nantes, with his last goal coming in November 2025 against Monaco.

ENGLAND
Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey (Fulham)

Alex Iwobi scored and assisted as Fulham defeated Sunderland 3–1, ending a three-game losing streak.

He delivered a corner kick assist for Raúl Jiménez’s opener before scoring Fulham’s third in the 85th minute. Calvin Bassey won the penalty that led to Jiménez’s second goal.

Samuel Chukwueze was unavailable due to a calf injury.

Tolu Arokodare (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Tolu Arokodare missed a first-half penalty as Wolves lost 1–0 to Crystal Palace. The striker later faced racial abuse online, prompting a strong statement of support from the club.

Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest)

Ola Aina was booked for a tactical foul in Nottingham Forest’s narrow loss to Liverpool.

Frank Onyeka, Josh Maja

Frank Onyeka was named Man of the Match as Coventry City defeated West Brom 2–0, while Josh Maja featured off the bench for the Baggies.

BELGIUM
Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, Raphael Onyedika

Ikwuemesi scored for the third time in four games, but Leuven lost 2–1 to Club Brugge. Onyedika played the full match.

TURKEY
Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor)

Paul Onuachu scored for a sixth consecutive league match as Trabzonspor came from behind to beat Gaziantep 2–1. He now has 17 league goals and 18 in all competitions this season.

Wilfred Ndidi (Beşiktaş)

Wilfred Ndidi marked an emotional return with a goal as Beşiktaş crushed Göztepe 4–0. The midfielder delivered a commanding all-round performance after returning from his father’s burial.
