Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, is set for heightened activity as President Bola Tinubu undertakes a one-day visit today (Friday) to commission major infrastructure projects expected to stimulate MSMEs, improve power supply, and enhance oil and gas productivity in the state.
The visit will see the inauguration of key legacy projects executed by Governor Douye Diri, with significant implications for economic growth and connectivity.
In preparation, the state government declared Friday a public holiday, alongside the closure of markets and the implementation of strategic security measures to ensure smooth movement, particularly within Yenagoa.
Among the projects slated for commissioning are the Yenagoa-Gbaramatu Road and the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, both expected to enhance inter-community access and unlock business opportunities across the riverine terrain.
The President will also inaugurate a 60-megawatt gas turbine Independent Power Project, a flagship initiative of the Diri administration designed to significantly boost electricity supply in the state.
Other projects include the Sagbama-Ekeremor Road, which is expected to ease transportation and stimulate commerce across the region.
As is customary during state visits, President Tinubu is also expected to engage with key stakeholders, particularly in the oil-rich Niger Delta, on issues of development, security, and economic expansion.
The visit comes amid renewed federal efforts to strengthen national security and ramp up crude oil production, with projections targeting over two million barrels per day.
The administration is also seeking stability in output from the Niger Delta to maximise potential gains from evolving global energy dynamics.
Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, described the visit as a strong signal of the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and national development.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Information, Nnaemeka Okafor, the minister said the President’s economic reforms under the Renewed Hope agenda have strengthened the fiscal capacity of states, enabling them to deliver critical infrastructure.
According to him, Bayelsa has significantly benefited from these reforms and remains committed to supporting the Federal Government’s development drive.
